Law if they do not heed to the warning by the
Federal Government to end
All Forms of
Gas flaring by 2008. The Director of the Department of
Petroleum Resources (DPR) said at the Society of
Petroleum Engineering in
Abuja , said
Government \'s directive on elimating
Gas -flaring by
Oil Companies by 2008 is still in force.
Although the multinationals have ruled
Out the possibility of this objective next year as a result of the crisis in the
Niger Delta region, the DPR authorities have maintained that
Government will not shift its stand on
Gas flaring. He said the
Nigerian Petroleum Act of 1969 provides that
Companies involved in production should, five years after commencement of production, come up with feasebile means of utilising produced
Gas , that\'\'
Gas flaring is against the
Law\'\'. the act was put in place in 1979, but the implementation of the act was also frustrated by operators on the allegation of lack of funding,
Ibikunle said the penalty was introduced in 1985.
